La encuesta detallaba lo que muchos de nosotros sabemos: que en el bienintencionado mundo de las organizaciones sin \u00e1nimo de lucro, el liderazgo es desproporcionadamente blanco. S\u00f3lo un par de meses antes, de repente me hab\u00eda dado cuenta de que en todos mis a\u00f1os de escolarizaci\u00f3n, desde la guarder\u00eda hasta los 4 a\u00f1os de universidad, no hab\u00eda tenido ni un solo profesor que se pareciera a m\u00ed. Y no s\u00f3lo un profesor que fuera hombre y de raza mixta, sino un profesor de color en absoluto. Es una locura, pero demasiado com\u00fan. Para que lo entiendas, fui a K-6 en Mt. Vernon, NY. Grados 7-11 en el Bronx. 12\u00ba en Croton-on-Hudson. Universidad en SUNY Purchase. Lo que saco de esta constataci\u00f3n es algo que nunca podr\u00e9 resolver del todo: \u00bfes mi propia falta de ambici\u00f3n, mi falta de deseo de liderar, de ser Director Ejecutivo, un resultado de mi naturaleza o es un resultado de la educaci\u00f3n, o m\u00e1s bien de la falta de ella?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siempre hab\u00eda asumido que era mi naturaleza. Mi pereza de ni\u00f1a era simplemente lo que yo era. Mi falta de motivaci\u00f3n era mi car\u00e1cter. Y, de adulta, simplemente pensaba que ser una ED no era para m\u00ed, que no ser\u00eda buena en ese papel. Y eso estaba bien. No es para todo el mundo. Tengo talentos, pero no esos. S\u00f3lo que ahora me estoy cuestionando todo eso, observando mi propia opresi\u00f3n interiorizada y tratando de ver el posible da\u00f1o causado. Tengo que replantearme qui\u00e9n soy en este proceso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un par de meses m\u00e1s tarde, mantengo una conversaci\u00f3n con el director ejecutivo de una organizaci\u00f3n en la que participo. De pasada, mencionan que yo, como persona de color, soy el director ejecutivo. Brome\u00e9 conmigo mismo, probablemente les dije entre risas que no ser\u00eda bueno para eso, pero que pensar\u00eda en qui\u00e9n podr\u00eda ser. Me fui, dobl\u00e9 la esquina y me dije: \"\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 piensas eso?\". \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 dices que no ser\u00edas buena en ese papel?\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meses m\u00e1s tarde, voy a Baltimore a una formaci\u00f3n titulada \"Black Arts Executive Director Pipeline\" impartida por <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brioxy.com\/\">Brioxy<\/a>. En GWI, estamos metidos de lleno en convertirnos en DNP. As\u00ed que era una pregunta totalmente justa cuando un compa\u00f1ero de trabajo me pregunt\u00f3: \"\u00bfEst\u00e1s pensando en convertirte en un DNP en alg\u00fan lugar?\". Esta pregunta, junto con el tiempo que pas\u00e9 en Baltimore, me ayud\u00f3 a aclarar mi posici\u00f3n sobre todas estas cuestiones que hab\u00edan estado tirando de m\u00ed, las dudas sobre mi liderazgo y la opresi\u00f3n interiorizada. Todav\u00eda no puedo decir d\u00f3nde empieza todo y qui\u00e9n ser\u00eda yo si no fuera por..., o c\u00f3mo podr\u00eda ser si hubiera tenido profesores que se parecieran a m\u00ed. Pero lo que s\u00ed puedo decir es que una conclusi\u00f3n l\u00f3gica de la encuesta Race To Lead ser\u00eda que m\u00e1s personas de color tomaran la iniciativa en las organizaciones sin \u00e1nimo de lucro. Que alguien como yo diera un paso al frente. Pero no quiero reemplazar a las personas que est\u00e1n en la cima de un sistema que considero injusto. Quiero ver nuevos sistemas. Quiero ver cambios radicales en nuestra forma de actuar. Quiero ver m\u00e1s ejemplos de liderazgo compartido. M\u00e1s cooperativas propiedad de los trabajadores y organizaciones sin \u00e1nimo de lucro autogestionadas por los trabajadores. Es en estos espacios donde superar\u00e9 mi propia opresi\u00f3n interiorizada, donde (aunque sea a rega\u00f1adientes) asumir\u00e9 el poder, pero lo compartir\u00e9 con los dem\u00e1s. Es en estos sistemas donde se necesita m\u00e1s gente de color, porque tenemos experiencia arraigada en encontrar formas de prosperar incluso cuando los sistemas de trabajo no quieren que lo hagamos. But even with this strong foundation, he struggled with fear of the world, a lack of motivation, and what would have most likely been diagnosed as depression. Through time, deep self-work, fatherhood, and connection, Micah learned to discard the self-defining term \u201cshy\u201d, understanding that he doesn\u2019t need to define himself at all, but rather is free to feel and act as he chooses in the present. With this new awareness, Micah began forging a new path. Micah creci\u00f3 en Mt. Vernon, Nueva York, con una familia de mujeres fuertes que le guiaron y le mostraron c\u00f3mo trabajar con prop\u00f3sito y amor mientras serv\u00eda a la comunidad, as\u00ed como un padre que le ense\u00f1\u00f3 a ampliar siempre su perspectiva. Pero incluso con esta s\u00f3lida base, luch\u00f3 contra el miedo al mundo, la falta de motivaci\u00f3n y lo que probablemente se habr\u00eda diagnosticado como depresi\u00f3n. Con el tiempo, un profundo trabajo personal, la paternidad y la conexi\u00f3n, Micah aprendi\u00f3 a descartar el t\u00e9rmino \"t\u00edmido\", entendiendo que no necesita definirse a s\u00ed mismo, sino que es libre de sentir y actuar como quiera en el presente. Con esta nueva conciencia, Micah empez\u00f3 a forjarse un nuevo camino.
