Los \u00faltimos seis meses como parte del equipo de dise\u00f1o del Fondo Comunitario de Kingston me han supuesto un reto y un placer. Este proyecto trata de democratizar la riqueza y cambiar los recursos en Kingston. As\u00ed que, en el fondo, el proyecto tambi\u00e9n trata de cambiar el poder. Al concluir la primera fase del proceso de dise\u00f1o, me gustar\u00eda compartir algunas reflexiones sobre mi experiencia y mi perspectiva acerca del poder a trav\u00e9s del proceso de dise\u00f1o.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El fondo comunitario piloto de Kingston redistribuir\u00e1 $150K entre personas y grupos cuyas ideas beneficiar\u00e1n a nuestra comunidad y que, de otro modo, tendr\u00edan dificultades para recibir financiaci\u00f3n tradicional. La financiaci\u00f3n se conceder\u00e1 mediante un proceso de varias fases que est\u00e1 creando el equipo de dise\u00f1o. Creo que poner los recursos y su distribuci\u00f3n en manos de la comunidad es un cambio de poder que podr\u00eda transformar la ciudad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como uno de los dieciocho miembros de la comunidad que dise\u00f1an el fondo, reflexiono sobre el poder que tenemos. Este grupo est\u00e1 compuesto por personas que han expresado el deseo de crear comunidad<\/em>. Micah, H\u00e9l\u00e8ne y Aja, del Instituto del Buen Trabajo, nos han ayudado a aprender y a tomar decisiones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compartimos el poder mediante la colaboraci\u00f3n y el compromiso. Tenemos que aceptar que no todas nuestras ideas saldr\u00e1n adelante, que el cambio puede ser doloroso, lento o r\u00e1pido, y que cada uno de nosotros puede sentirlo de forma diferente. Llegamos a este trabajo como embajadores de nuestras propias experiencias vitales.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Llevamos al espacio a nuestras familias, nuestros amigos, nuestros parientes, nuestros aliados, nuestros antepasados, nuestros vecinos, nuestros compa\u00f1eros de trabajo. Los invocamos en nuestra imaginaci\u00f3n sobre c\u00f3mo podr\u00eda funcionar el fondo y a qui\u00e9n podr\u00eda beneficiar. \u00bfC\u00f3mo damos cabida a muchas opiniones y prioridades personales en la sala? \u00bfC\u00f3mo escuchamos?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como grupo, estamos de acuerdo en que las personas que hist\u00f3ricamente no han tenido tanto poder (por ejemplo, las personas BIPOC, las personas LGBTQI+, los inmigrantes e indocumentados, los j\u00f3venes, etc.) deben tener m\u00e1s poder y m\u00e1s recursos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfSomos representativos de aquellos a quienes esperamos que la financiaci\u00f3n beneficie m\u00e1s directamente? Puede que no, pero hay gente de muchos grupos identitarios diferentes trabajando juntos, y me consuela creer que las personas que se presentan son las adecuadas para hacer el trabajo. Esta creencia me fue inculcada en alg\u00fan momento de los \u00faltimos siete a\u00f1os, en un ensayo, taller o sala de reuniones, no lo recuerdo (Env\u00edo un profundo agradecimiento a quienes tuvieron esta idea y la compartieron conmigo)<\/em>. Este concepto me ha permitido relajar mis expectativas sobre qui\u00e9n aparece y confiar en los conocimientos y la compasi\u00f3n que cada uno puede ofrecer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por tanto, si nos hemos presentado, es que somos las personas adecuadas para hacer este trabajo. El trabajo puede ser un poco diferente de lo que esper\u00e1bamos bas\u00e1ndonos en qui\u00e9n est\u00e1 en la sala, pero somos las personas adecuadas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aun as\u00ed, la idea de que el equipo de dise\u00f1o puede no ser un grupo representativo ha surgido una y otra vez durante los \u00faltimos seis meses, tanto personalmente como en conversaciones con el grupo. Esto plantea una cuesti\u00f3n que todav\u00eda me cuesta articular sobre los cambios de poder. La cuesti\u00f3n tiene que ver con la \"pol\u00edtica progresista\" y la autodeterminaci\u00f3n de un grupo. Tambi\u00e9n tiene que ver con la distinci\u00f3n entre caridad, dones y compartir. Creo que tiene que ver con la pertenencia. \"Kingston\" comprende muchos <\/em>comunidades, muchos grupos. \u00bfC\u00f3mo puede la estructura de este fondo comunitario de Kingston apoyar la inclusi\u00f3n y la autodeterminaci\u00f3n de las numerosas comunidades de Kingston? y al mismo tiempo <\/em>\u00bfAyudar a reunir a estos grupos de forma que se ampl\u00ede el sentido de la solidaridad en la comunidad? \u00bfC\u00f3mo puede ampliar qui\u00e9nes est\u00e1n en comunidad aqu\u00ed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Espero que este trabajo sirva realmente para elevar y empoderar a muchas m\u00e1s personas que llaman a Kingston su hogar. Y reconozco que, a pesar de nuestras intenciones, algunas decisiones que tomemos podr\u00edan hacer que el poder y la financiaci\u00f3n siguieran movi\u00e9ndose en c\u00edrculos m\u00e1s habituales. Ese es un gran riesgo, y hay otros. Por ejemplo, corremos el riesgo de no llegar a una poblaci\u00f3n diversa cuando informamos a la gente de que el fondo est\u00e1 abierto; el proceso de solicitud podr\u00eda resultar demasiado intimidatorio para algunas personas; el fondo podr\u00eda dar recursos a un proyecto que no fructifique seg\u00fan lo previsto; etc. \u00bfC\u00f3mo comunicaremos los riesgos que asumimos en nuestro dise\u00f1o para intentar construir algo transformador? \u00bfC\u00f3mo evolucionar\u00e1 el proyecto para hacer frente a los errores que inevitablemente cometeremos en este proyecto piloto?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Este proyecto ha puesto de manifiesto muchos retos a la hora de dise\u00f1ar nuevos sistemas frente a viejos sistemas arraigados y poderosos. Este primer fondo es piloto y limitado. Los problemas que esperamos que el fondo pueda abordar son enormes; sabemos que $150.000 no resolver\u00e1 todos los problemas de Kingston. Pero este experimento, y lo que venga despu\u00e9s, ofrece la oportunidad de intentar cambiar la forma en que funcionan las cosas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esperamos que, independientemente de los resultados de los proyectos financiados por este proyecto piloto, aprendamos m\u00e1s, tanto a trav\u00e9s de los \u00e9xitos como de los errores, sobre c\u00f3mo seguir trabajando hacia nuevos sistemas de forma eficaz. Nos pedimos a nosotros mismos y a los dem\u00e1s que demos un poco m\u00e1s de respiro a las cosas que creemos que son \"como son\". Aunque todo esto puede suponer un reto, para m\u00ed todo es bienvenido. Me estiro. Encuentro esperanza para el cambio. Encuentro nuevos amigos. Siento entusiasmo por la ciudad que podemos ayudar a crear, una ciudad en la que todos estamos invitados a prosperar juntos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
