Nuestra productora, Flicker Filmworks, de New Paltz, est\u00e1 preparando la tercera temporada de GOING FROM BROKE, un programa creado por Ashton Kutcher para ayudar a los j\u00f3venes a superar la deuda de los pr\u00e9stamos estudiantiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A menudo se dice a los j\u00f3venes, sobre todo a los de comunidades hist\u00f3ricamente desfavorecidas, que la educaci\u00f3n es el billete hacia una vida mejor: \"ve a una buena universidad y el resto se arreglar\u00e1 solo\". Pero cada d\u00eda conocemos a personas que nos demuestran que la educaci\u00f3n no es el gran democratizador de la riqueza que una vez cre\u00edmos que era. Por ejemplo, hemos tenido un joven de 25 a\u00f1os con $200K de pr\u00e9stamos para una licenciatura, y un profesor de 50 a\u00f1os con $300K de pr\u00e9stamos para un doctorado. Cada uno de ellos gana ahora $75K al a\u00f1o y hace frente a sus pagos, pero debido a los intereses, el importe de sus pr\u00e9stamos no deja de crecer: es improbable que lleguen a pagarlos nunca. Tambi\u00e9n es importante tener en cuenta que los pr\u00e9stamos estudiantiles no desaparecen cuando te declaras en quiebra, por lo que el pr\u00e9stamo podr\u00eda morir contigo (o con tus padres en el caso de los pr\u00e9stamos Parent Plus). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

La educaci\u00f3n es, por supuesto, algo maravilloso y valioso, pero debemos analizar su precio en comparaci\u00f3n con los posibles salarios futuros. Como sociedad, tambi\u00e9n tenemos que prohibir los pr\u00e9stamos abusivos dirigidos a menores. A los j\u00f3venes se les dan sumas rid\u00edculas de dinero para los estudios: \"toma, saca $120.000 para la universidad, \u00bfy por qu\u00e9 no coges esta bonita tarjeta de cr\u00e9dito para divertirte un poco mientras?\". Un joven de 17 o 18 a\u00f1os no est\u00e1 pensando en cargar con deudas dentro de 20 a\u00f1os. De hecho, el cerebro humano no termina de desarrollarse hasta los 25 a\u00f1os, y nuestra capacidad para comprender las consecuencias futuras suele evolucionar en la veintena. Entonces, \u00bfc\u00f3mo podemos pedir a un estudiante de secundaria que tome una decisi\u00f3n que podr\u00eda ser perjudicial para su salud financiera durante el resto de su vida?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\u00f1\u00e1dase a esto la inflaci\u00f3n, la crisis inmobiliaria, la recuperaci\u00f3n tras la pandemia, el desempleo, las deudas m\u00e9dicas y de tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito... tanta gente se hunde cada vez m\u00e1s en la deuda, incluso mientras los ricos siguen haci\u00e9ndose m\u00e1s ricos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
