Su familia se traslad\u00f3 a Pensilvania, donde trabaj\u00f3 en Burpee's Fordhook Farms durante las vacaciones de verano y comenz\u00f3 a cultivar su propio huerto. Comenz\u00f3 sus estudios en la Universidad Estatal de Pennsylvania en Biolog\u00eda, la transici\u00f3n a la arquitectura del paisaje y se gradu\u00f3 con una licenciatura en Arquitectura en 1982. Trabaj\u00f3 en empresas de Nueva Jersey hasta 1989, cuando se traslad\u00f3 a Rhinecliff y comenz\u00f3 su propia pr\u00e1ctica, Sie Designs. A lo largo de su carrera, ha mantenido su amor por los sistemas vivos. En 2016 se inscribi\u00f3 en el Programa de Inmersi\u00f3n en Alfabetizaci\u00f3n Ecol\u00f3gica del Instituto Omega. De ah\u00ed surgi\u00f3 su iniciativa de aumentar la seguridad alimentaria local ayudando a la gente a cultivar sus propios alimentos: \"Del patio a la mesa\".
